Beacon Dog of the Year Rules

The rules are similar to the Agility Club Annual Awards but with a different point scale and qualifying period. The awards are presented at Beacon's AGM on the first Sunday in December. The qualifying period is 1st November to 31st October.

Categories are: Small dog, Medium dog, Large dog

Points are awarded for all places and clear rounds. The top three scoring dogs in each category will receive a trophy.

In all categories, points will be awarded as follows:

1st 6 pts, 2nd 5 pts, 3rd 4 pts, 4th 3 pts, Any other place 2 pts, Clear rounds also = 1 pt

Points can only be claimed for places that are awarded. If the show only awards places to 5th, for example, then only places down to 5th can be claimed for other than clear rounds.

  1. The Beacon Dog of the Year are only open to members of Beacon, and points can only be counted from the date of membership.
  2. Points can only be gained from Open and Championship shows licensed by The Kennel Club. The following are examples of events that cannot be counted: KC Limited shows, shows licensed by other Kennel Clubs or organisations, unaffiliated shows, finals, semi-finals, special or invitation events.
  3. Only awarded places in scheduled single-dog classes can be counted. All Standard classes count, with the exception that in Championship the Jumping and Agility qualifying rounds may be claimed for but not the Final. Special classes such as Gamblers, Power & Speed, Snooker, etc. will normally be allowed provided entry is based solely on KC grades with no additional restriction. The exception is that points from Junior classes may be claimed for dogs entered in either of the Junior Under/Over 12 annual award categories. Examples of Special classes that cannot be counted include: ABC (Anything But Collie), BC/WS (Border Collie/Working Sheepdog), Veteran, Allsorts / Any Size, Pay on the Day, Pairs, Team, Trio.
  4. In all categories, trophies are for one dog and main handler only, i.e. if a dog scores points when handled by another Beacon member the points can be added to the named main handler on the database. Where two dogs have an equal number of points the number of wins will be used to determine which takes the higher place, followed (if necessary) by the number of 2nds, 3rds, etc.
  5. Within the points 'year' a dog can only be entered in ONE category i.e. the category it was in on 1st November (which may not be changed during the year).
  6. Results must be entered on the web-site database by one person per dog preferably within a month of achievement. The final results at the end of the Annual Awards year must be entered on the database no later than 2 weeks before the club AGM (06th December 2010).
